FCCASE# \

ESTABLISH VALUE OF EXISTING FIRE ENGINE FOR RE-SALE
By: Dean Kapler, Fire Chief

Background:

The 2007 budget included funding for a new fire engine to replace the first fire apparatus
purchased by Ramsey in 1989. The new engine is planned to be delivered on Wednesday June 25,
2008.

Through the Joint Powers Agreement that Ramsey and Burns (soonto be Nowthen) have entered
into, discussions have taken place at the committee level for Bums Township to purchase the
existing 1989 Ford L9000 engine and relocate in Fire Station #3 which is located near the Town
Hall in Burns. The purpose of this case is to establish a value for the engine and to authorize the
sale to Bums TownshiplNowthen.

Since there are no local appraisers offire apparatus, General Safety of Wyoming contacted two
appraisers for an estimated value. Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus, LLC reviewed the
specifications and estimates the value at $20,000. (Appraisal attached) Also contacted was Berry
Emergency Vehicles who also gave an appraisal of $20,000. (Appraisal will be available at
committee meeting)

At the time the 2007 budget was generated, it was planned that any revenues generated from the
sale of the fire apparatus would he used to offset the cost of the new apparatus.

Recommendation:

Staff recommends establishing the value of the apparatus at $20,000 and offering to Bums
Township/Nowthen for that cost. If Bums/Nowthen would choose not to purchase the vehicle,
staff would begin a process to market the apparatus for sale to another buyer.

Committee Action:

Recommend to City Council to- accept/reject staff's recommendation.

Council Action:

Motion to accept/reject Committees recommendation.

Reviewed By: .
City Administrator LA...
Finance Director f) ,..;.--.
Fire Chief

Fe: 06/24/2008
