Case # <br />ADOPT ORDINANCE REPEALING SECTION 7.82 (ALARM SYSTEMS) OF THE <br />CITY CODE AND ADDING SECTION 5.23 (ALARM SYSTEMS) <br />By: Jim Way, Police Chief <br />Background: <br />At the July 8, 2008 regular City Council meeting, staff introduced an ordinance to replace <br />Section 7:82 of Ramsey City Code that regulates alarm systems within the City, requiring a user <br />alarm permit for false alarms. <br />In the interest of public safety, a penalty for excessive alarms received by the police and fire <br />departments will be imposed. The current process consisting of a "user alarm permit" is being <br />replaced with the administrative civil penalty. The Schedule of Rates, Fees and Charges will be <br />amended to reflect the administrative civil penalties. <br />Attachments: <br />Existing Section 7.82 (Alarm Systems) - to be repealed <br />Ordinance for adoption -City Code Section 5.23 (Alarm Systems) <br />Council Action: <br />Motion to adopt Ordinance #08-XX repealing Section 7.82 of City Code and amending Chapter <br />5, adding Section 5.23 -Alarm Systems. <br />Roll call vote: Councilrnember Matt Look <br />Councilmember David Jeffrey <br />Councilmember David Elvig <br />Councilmember Mary Jo Olson <br />Councilmember John Dehen <br />Councilmember Sarah Strommen <br />Mayor Thomas Gamec <br />-141- <br />
