Chairperson Johns commented that the restroom is nice and clean and questioned when the doors
were opened to the public.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that it had been open for a couple of weeks.

Commissioner Hanson commented that the building blends into the park nicely.

Commissioner Backous questioned if any other parks had been scheduled other than Rivers
Bend.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that they were looking at parks that already had sanitary
sewer and of those; Rivers Bend is the most widely used park. He explained that it is not just
sports people using that park, as they also get daycare, lunch traffic, sports, families and youth
associations using the park. He advised that they could also raise the restroom off the ground
about two feet, as they did with this building.

Chairperson Johns questioned when the drinking fountain would be installed.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that the timeline was about six weeks but hoped that it
would be sooner than that.

COMMISSION/STAFF INPUT

Park-s Supervisor Riverblood advised that there had been a resident request received by
Councilmember Elvig to add a volleyball court to Woodland Park. He advised that the court
could get weedy if not kept up on. He stated that staff recommended that the Commission should
check into the request. He advised that this would be inexpensive and is something that could
either be incorporated into the budget or they could use funding from the lawful gambling
account. He advised that they could also check to see if the young people requesting the court
would be willing to do the upkeep on the court in exchange for it being installed in the park. He
explained that they could make a boarder that exceeded the playing area to contain the area. He
advised that it is a level area that is near the shelter and has high visibility. He explained that if
the court becomes overrun they could simply remove it from the park.

Commissioner Barr questioned if this is something that the homes around that park would enjoy.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that they would send out a letter to the neighbors affected
to determine their opinions on the subject. He advised that the first step would be to speak with
the letter writer. He stated that there are a lot of young families in that area that seem serious
about using the court.

Commissioner Erickson advised that this park is in her neighborhood and stated that there is
really nothing to do in that area. She thought that it would be used by both adults and children.

Chairperson Johns agreed that she would like to see a volleyball court somewhere in the city.

Park and Recreation Commission/July 10,2008
Page 6 of 8
