CA # <br />2008-2009 SAFE AND SOBER CAMPAIGN <br />AGREEMENT WITH STATE ~F MINNESOTA <br />By: Captain Timothy Dwyer <br />Background: <br />The police department has participated in the State of Minnesota Safe and Sober <br />Campaign-for several .years now. Grant money is available to local agencies to <br />conduct education and specifically enforcement in the area of drunk driving, <br />seatbelt, and speeding. All law enforcement agencies in Anoka County will be <br />participating in the 2008-2009 grant operation; starting in October of 2008, <br />running through September of 2009. Ramsey PD has been active in this <br />program, putting officers on state paid day7night overtime shifts, which have <br />resulting in increased alcohol related arrests and other moving violation citations, <br />,~_ . <br />making our city a safer place to uve. We have won equipment and 2"d place <br />awards for our participation in this program. The State of Minnesota needs a <br />resolution from Council authorizing the execution of the 2008-2009. agreement. <br />All shifts are overtime, paid in full by the State grant program, and occur within <br />the city limits of Ramsey. No patrol shifts are shorted, and the only additional <br />expenses to the city would be fuel costs, potential court time, and a minimal <br />increase in clerical time to procesuld Ipke to continuegh s partne ship with the <br />successful in Ramsey and we wo <br />State of Minnesota to keep our roadways safe. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff requests adoption of Resolution #08-XJC~CX authorizing the execution of <br />the required Safe and Sober Campaign agreement with-the State of Minnesota. <br />Council Action: <br />Motion by City Council to adopt Resolution # 08-xJCX)CX ,authorizing the <br />execution of the agreement with the State of Minnesota Department of Public <br />Safety for the 2008-2009 participation in the project. <br />Reviewed by: <br />Police Chief Jim Way <br />.City Administrator Kurt Ulrich <br />-75- <br />
