Public Safety

Another Awesome
National Night Out in Ramsey!

Ramsey's
2008 National
Night Out (NNO)
city-wide event
was celebrated
by over 4,000
residents and in-
volved more than
2,200 households.
Fifty-three regis- ~
tered NNO block
parties enjoyed visits from the Police
and Fire Departments, McGruff and

Scruff, and our
City Council.
NNO is
always the first
Tuesday in Au-
gust and planning
begins early in
the year. For
more information
on NNO, check
out our website at
www.ci.ramsey.mn.us/departments/
police/nno.asp.

Recreational Burning
Regulations

Recreational fires are to be used
for recreation, cooking or ceremonial
purposes. Recreational burning is not to
be used for disposal.
Recreational fires must consist of
clean dry wood, producing little detect-
able smol(e, odor or soot beyond the
property line; conducted with an adult
tending the fire at all times. Respect
weather conditions, neighbors, burning
bans, and air quality so that nuisance,
health or safety hazards are not created.
The Ramsey Fire Department
suggests a 50 foot minimum distance
between the fire site and any structure
or vehicle. If unable to obtain this
distance, in no circumstance shall a fire
be closer than 25-feet to any structure
or vehicle.
Burning times are Monday through
Friday from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, Satur-
day, Sunday and national holidays from
12:00 noon to 6:00 am.
A recreational fire site is an area of

no more than a 3-foot diameter mea-
sured from the inside of a fire ring
or non-combustible border. Burning
Barrels are prohibited.
Disposal of larger quantities of
brush, trees, etc. requires an Open
Burning Permit available through
the Fire Department. A $25 applica-
tion fee is charged for the permit.
Any person conducting an open burn
without the necessary permit shall be
required to extinguish said fire and
may be cited and prosecuted under
Ramsey City Ordinance #92-03 (a
misdemeanor). The person may also
be charged the cost of fire suppres-
sion services from the city of Ramsey
Fire Department at the rate of $300
per hour plus any other costs incurred
by the city.
Please call the Fire Department at
763-427-4452 if you have any ques-
tions or concerns.

~

Free Car Seat
INSPECTIONS for
Anoka County
Residents

Safe Kids Anoka County offers
several car seat clinics throughout
the year for Anoka County residents
to have their car seats inspected by
trained technicians. Four out of five
car seats are installed wrong! Get
yours checked. Appointments are
required.

September 9
4:00 - 7:00 pm
Coon Rapids Fire 3
Appointments: 763-767-6488

October 1
4:00-7:00 pm
Fridley Fire Dept.
Appointments: 763-572-3626

It's Still Bike
Weather -
Don't Forget
Your Helmet!

Head injuries account for more
than 60% of bicycle-related deaths,
more than two-thirds ofbicycle-re-
lated hospital admissions and about
one-third of hospital emergency room
visits for bicycling injuries.
Wearing a properly fitted bicycle
helmet will help reduce the chance of
head injury by 85%. Universal use
of bicycle helmets by children ages
4 to 15 could prevent between 135
and 155 deaths, between 39,000 and
45,000 head injuries, and between
18,000 and 55,000 scalp and face
injuries annually.

www.ci.ramsey.mn.us

3
