~

Public Notice

City of Ramsey Policy on Placement
of Election Signs

The city of Ramsey is committed
to supporting the rights of residents in
the exercise of their right to partici-
pate in the election process. The city
is also committed to maintaining the
roads, streets and right-of-ways of
the city in a safe condition, therefore,
the city is establishing the follow-
ing policy regarding the placement
of signs supporting candidates in an
election.

1. Political signs posted by a
candidate for political office, or
by a person or group promot-
ing a political issue or a political
candidate, may be placed in any
district. Political signs are lim-
ited to thirty-two (32) square feet
in area and such signs shall be
removed within 7 days following
the election. [Ramsey City Code
9.12]
2. Signs can only be located on
private property adjacent to a
roadway with permission of
the property owner. They shall
not be placed within 15 feet of
a driveway. The sign shall not
distract drivers nor offer any
confusion to any street, highway,
sign, or any traffic sign or sig-
nal. Signs cannot be within 100
feet of the front door of a polling
place. [Minnestota State Law]
3. Sign placement shall conform
to the sight triangle ordinance
adopted by the city. This ordi-
nance prohibits placement of
objects within a triangular area
at street intersections where the
vision of drivers approaching the
intersection may be blocked by
the object.

4. The city, ctate, and county all
maintain a roadside easement on
all of their public roads. Signs
need to be located at least 15 feet
from the bacl( of curb or the edge
of the roadway to be out of the
easement on city streets. State
and county roads are gener-
ally much larger and candidates
should contact those agencies
for their guidelines as far as sign
placement is concerned.
5. Those placing signs shall contact
Gopher State One Call at 651-
454-0002 for location of under-
ground utilities prior to placing
signs. Be extremely aware of un-
derground utilities when pound-
ing in signs. Utility depth may
vary from location to location and
there is no guarantee they will be
buried at the proper depth. This
is a free service available to any-
one who requests it.

COMPLIANCE PROCEDURES

Signs placed in city right-of-ways
will be removed without notice by
city staff. Signs that are removed will
be taken to the Public Works Depart-
ment located at 14100 Jaspar Street
NW. All election signs remaining at
the Public Works Department seven
(7) days after the election will be
disposed of. MN/DOT and Anoka
County remove signs adjacent to their
roads. For more information, please
contact Grant Riemer at 763-433-
9863.

Ramsey
City
Council
Candidates
Primary
Election
September 9,
2008

Mayor
Bruce Bachler
Terry Cleveland
Keith Kiefer
Bob Ramsey

Council at Lart:e
Irene Hedtke
Mary Ann Kiefer
Melody Shryocl(
Jeff Wise

Council - Ward 2 -
General Election Only
Andre Champagne
Colin McGlone

Council - Ward 4 -
General Election Only
David Jeffrey
Thomas J Towberman

6

www.ci.ramsey.mn.us
