CASE # <br />Ut'DA~'E 4N UDl)/EVEN Sl?RINKLIN~G BAN' <br />By: John N+~lsoan, Utilities Supearvisor <br />l~ackgarauartd: <br />Qn July 12`" 2004 ,City Council adopted the odd/even sprinkling Code #4.40,06 Sub 10, This <br />code was put into place to assure that there will be an adequate amount of water available for <br />all residents on the City of Ramsey's water system, it is also important that there is enough <br />water available for the Fire department in the event of a fire. City Staff has sent out a total of <br />137 certified letters to residents, townhome associations and businesses that .were in violation <br />of the sprinkling ban. Public works personnel utilize a digital camera to capture the incident, it <br />also prints the date and time on each image. There were no repeat offenders in 2008 so no <br />fines were issued this season. <br />Public Education <br />City .staff made a lot of effort this season to educate the residents on the add/even sprinkling <br />ban. Staff had the regulation added to all City of Ramsey utility bills,. web site updates, <br />odd/even sprinkling signs-wereplaced throughout the City that wean relocated many times this <br />summer. And often stopping. to talk to residents who were outside and explaining the ordinance <br />to them. Staff also returned many calls to residents and businesses who received a certified <br />letter. <br />Summer water usage <br />The City of Ramsey pumped 320,720,982 gallons of water June thru August this season. <br />With an average of 3,4$6,097 per day, compare this to the average winter consumption of <br />866,882 .gallons. <br />Historical water usage <br />These numbers represent-the total gallons of water pumped from our municipal wells June thru <br />August: <br />20QS 320,7 MG. <br />2007 342.4 MG, <br />2006 336.6 MG, <br />2005. 282.0 MG. <br />2004 251.2 MG. <br />Committee Action: <br />No action necessary. <br />Reviewed by: <br />Director of Public Works/Principal City.
