· Providing an off-leash area clearly benefits pet owners; and other park patrons in terms of
reducing conflicts between dogs and people
· A designated dog park can enhance the social experience for dog enthusiasts by
providing a place to meet
· Code enforcement may be easier within the park system when there is a place for off-
leash activity

In terms of moving this concept forward, the project has not been identified in the Capital
Improvement Program, however, the scope of work and cost are minimal. Staff estimates that
fencing and gates can be installed for less than $7,000 for commercial grade chain link fencing
with bottom tension wire. Because of the return on value that this concept provides, staff is
recommending that the project be considered by City Council yet this year. The recommended
funding source would be the same source that provided for the outfield fencing - the Lawful
Gambling Fund.

Commission Action:

Based on discussion

Reviewed by:
Director of Public W orks/Principal City Engineer
Police Chief
Civil Engineer II

P&R: 10/9/08
