Nfcasures to be Taken Through Regulation; <br />1, Require that all well owners within die city's' uri3diCtiO11 connect to the public water <br />supply and disconnect their well from the home plumbing system to prevent cross- <br />co.nnoct;ion with the city's water supply distribution system. <br />Well , ane entent: <br />Measures to be Taken Through Education: <br />1, Sponsor a workshop to educate the public about the proper location, maintenance, and <br />sealing of wolls, <br />2, Work with MDH to schedule exports who can attend these workshops, <br />3. Use a packet containing pamphlets. and other printed information to inform property <br />owners about well management techniques and testing water quality, <br />4, Loan a video from the MDH addressing private well maintenance which may, be shown <br />to local govcr=cnt, or ,groups of well owners. <br />5. Show a video about wells and groundwater on a local cable station. <br />6, Create a video about well management issues and practices and show it through a local <br />cable company, <br />7, Develop news rolcoses which can be used in newspaper articles, or as publlc service <br />announcements, <br />S. Create newsletter articles about propor well managomont, grid also provide thong to local <br />or statewide newsletters, <br />9, : Develop a newsletter spoclfically for landownors in the WHIG' aroo which highlights well <br />management practices, <br />IQ, Sot up a permanent display at a location where community members frequently visit, <br />11, Use a display at a seasonal event, <br />12. Contact well owners in a WNP arca to educate them directly about well management. <br />13, present well management strategies to county boards, city councils, and township boards, <br />14. Sponsor special events such as "Welcome to Wellhoad Protection." <br />15. AAmange a tour that demonstrates proper well management and scaling practices. <br />16, Participate in local youth education days and promote WHP awareness, <br />17. Collaborate with other local resource agencies (such as local water plarming) in <br />: promoting WHP. <br />Nl.eas.ures to be Taken Through Services: <br />I , Send. annual notices to well owners reminding them of proper well maintenance and <br />provide a contact nurnber for well questions, <br />2. Conduct an annual visit with property owners to ensure that proper well managa.ment <br />techniques are being practiced and institute a program for evaluating the condition of <br />wells, <br />3, Pay to replace dUi aged or missing sanitary well seals, <br />4.
