Reschedule November Meetings <br />By: Jo Thieling, City Clerk, <br />Background; <br />Mayor/Council/Staff Input #1 <br />As Council is aware, the General Election is on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, which is also the <br />evening for the regularly scheduled Council Work Session. According to State Statute, there can <br />be no City meetings during the time the election polls are open, therefore, the first opportunity to <br />call a meeting to order would be 8:01 p.m. that evening. Staff is suggesting Council reschedule <br />the November 4 work session to Wednesday November 5. Staff would also like to schedule the <br />Canvassing Board for that evening instead of asking Council to meet two evenings in the same <br />week. The Canvassing Board typically lasts, only a few mintues, therefore, the Work Session <br />could be scheduled to immediately follow the canvassing of the election results. <br />The next Tuesday, November 11, is Veterans' Day, an observed holiday for City staff. That <br />being the second Tuesday, and a regular Councitnight, Staff is suggesting Council reschedule to <br />Monday, November 10, 2008. <br />Council Action: <br />Motion to schedule the Canvassing Board to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2008; <br />and — <br />Motion to reschedule the City Council Work Session to Wednesday, November 5, immediately <br />following the Canvassing Board; <br />- and — <br />Motion to reschedule the City Council meeting to Monday, November 10. <br />OR - if Council prefers a different schedule than what has been suggested by staff: <br />Motion to schedule, the Canvassing Board for p.m. on , November, <br />2008 (must be within 2 days of the Election) <br />and — <br />Motion to reschedule the November 4 City Council Work Session to ; <br />- and — <br />Motion to reschedule the November 11, 2008 City Council meeting to <br />—369— <br />
