CASE #: ~ <br /> <br />REQUEST BY RESIDENTS TO INSTALL A FOUR-WAY STOP SIGN AT 155TM <br />AVENUE N.W./COUNTY ROAD #57 (RANISEY BOULEVARD N.W.) <br /> By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />At the August 22, 2000 City Council meeting several residents presented the Council <br />with a petition requesting support for the installation of a four-way stop at 155th Avenue <br />N.W/County Road #57 (Ramsey Boulevard N.W.). This location was the location of a <br />traffic fatality this past summer. <br /> <br />The most recent traffic counts available are fi.om 1997 and show the following average <br />day trips: <br /> <br />North Leg. (County Road #57) <br />East Leg. (153rd Avenue N.W.) <br />South Leg. (County Road #57) <br />West Leg. (155th Avenue N.W.) <br /> <br />4700 <br />6OO <br />6500 <br />2650 <br /> <br />It should be noted that the north and south leg traffic counts are approximate, the counts <br />for these segments weren't taken immediately north and south of the intersection. <br /> <br />The accident history based upon the records ofthe Ramsey Police Department are as <br />follows: <br /> 1998 3 1995 1 <br /> 1997 2 1994 3 <br /> I996 0 1993 0 <br /> <br />Observation: <br /> <br />Placement of all-way stop signs require meeting warrants which are defined in the <br />manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. I have attached the section of the manual, <br />which pertains to all-way stop signs. With the amount of information presented above, it <br />is not possible to determine whether a four-way stop sign would be warranted under the <br />criteria cited in the manual. It would be appropr/ate to request a traffic study of the <br />intersection to analyze the hourly counts and have it be evaluated for.the placement of an <br />ail-way stop. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />It is staff's recommendation that the attached letter be'sent to Anoka County requesting <br />an evaluation of the intersection for the placement of four-way stop signs. <br /> <br />-171- <br /> <br /> <br />
