Case #

PUBLIC HEARING AND LEVY OF SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS FOR
IMPROVEMENT PROJECT #99-11 (JACKAL STREET N.W. PAVING)
By: Steve Jankowski, City Engineer-

Background:

This project was petitioned by residents of Jackal Street N.W. between 153rd AvenUe
N.W. and 151st Lane N.W. The project entails the ~ading of the existing dirt street and
paving with four inches of Class 5 and three inches of bituminous.

Originally, the feasibility study called for a standard 1½ inch bituminous mat, however,
upon petition from all the properties, the thic ~kness was increased to three inches. The
attached letter was sent to all property owners prior to award estimating that the revised
cost of the project to be $3,881.00.

The feasibility study anticipated the total project cost would be divided equally among
eight property owners along Jackal Street N.W. and two comer lots, one on 153rd Avenue
N.W. and one fronting on 151st Lane N.W., who would receive half shares. Comment
received at the public heating caused research which discovered that the properties along
151st Lane N.W. had received a full assessment share when 151st Lane N.W. was paved.
Therefore it is appropriate that the one half share for the property on 151'~t Lane N.W. be
eliminated and the project cost be divided among 8.5 shares. Thus the proposed
assessments are $3,640.10 for the eight fall shares and $1,820.10 for the comer lot.

Council Action:

Motion to adopt Resolution #00-09-XXX adopting assessments for Improvement Project
#99-11.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Director of Public Works

CC: 09/26/00

-95-
