REPORT FROM PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE By: Public Works Staff Background: The Public Works Committee met on Tuesday, October 17, 2000, and discussed one case. The actions of the Committee are as follows: Case #1: Update on Trunk Highway #47 Staff reported that a letter had been sent to Mr. Greg Felt of Mn Dot requesting Mn Dot's position on extending the screening wall through the section of Trunk Highway #47 adjacent to the Willow Ridge subdivision. The letter also requested a response to the safety of the path and adjacent properties from vehicles accidentally leaving the roadway. A preliminary phone response to these questions indicated that Mn Dot would likely be receptive to extending the screening wall through the Willow Ridge area. Mn Dot indicated that they relied on established "clear zones" beyond which the probability of vehicle conflict is deemed to be very slight. The right-of-way line is well beyond the "clear zone". The Committee recommended that the Willow Ridge neighborhood impacted be sent a mailing which would provide the following information: (1 .) a map showing the extent of the screening wall relative to lot lines and structures, (2.) a cross section illustrating distances and heights from the roadway to the adjacent property lines. (3.) a proposed landscaping plan and (4.) digital photos of the style and color of the wall. The letter should solicit comments in support on opposition to any of the above. Council Action: Motion to ratify the direction of the Committee.
