Park and Recreation Commission Park'S Capital Improvement - 2002

-266-

Lake Itasca Boardwalk to 164th Lane N~W.:

Residents have been requesting a paved connection from the neighborhood west of
Central Park to the Lake Itasca Trail System. Several years ago a boardwalk was
constructed to connect the upland areas west of this neighborhood to 164th Lane N.W.
With the platting of Northfork Oaks 2nd Addition the land has now been conveyed to the
City as a park corridor to provide an opportunity to pave the dirt trail. By 2002 it is
expected that trail fees will be collected in an amount necessary to fund the project.

Flintwood Terrace Shelter and Irrigation:

The housing makeup in and around the Flintwood Terrace subdivision is likely to always
contain young families. As is the case right now the volume use of the Flintwood
Terrace play~ound equipment makes irrigation necessary in order to grow grass of a
desirable quality. This project would also provide a small shelter to provide shade for
parents as they monitor their child's play in addition to neighborhood picnic
opportunities.

Riverdale Park Irrigation and Aglime Infields:

This neighborhood ball field receives a significant amount of use as evidenced by the dirt
runways between the bases and the home plate area. Replacing the infield area with
agiime will improve the quality of play at the neighborhood level as well as for the Youth
Association during their practice season. Lrrigation will enhance all aspects of the parks
use. This urban park will also someday be a midway pohat on a trail paralleling the
Mississippi River. The undeveloped property immediately west of Riverdale Park may
one day place additional demand on the park.

I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!

i
!
