Councilmember Strommen introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption:

RESOLUTION #08-08-132

RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING NORTHERN STAR COUNCIL, BOY SCOUTS. OF
AMERICA THREE RIVERS DISTRICT....; RUM RIVER SCOUT CAMP

WHEREAS, children in the United States are more likely to be killed by unintentional
injuries than from all the childhood illnesses combined and these unintentional injuries' are
preventable by reaching out to children at an early age; and

WHEREAS, the City of Ramsey reaches out to these children through Safety Camp where we
combine a fun learning environment with important safety messages and it is something they
remember for a lifetime; and

WHEREAS, the Safety Camp staff also involve the parents by sending information
home to help them continue a dialogue with their children and create family environments that
are safety for everyone in the home; and

WHEREAS, Safety Camp, a 2-day camp for second and third graders which has been
operating since 2002, has served approximately 900 local youth; and

WHEREAS, Ramsey Safety Camp is held annually in June at the Rum River Boy Scout
Camp located at 15659 St. Francis Boulevard NW in Ramsey; and

WHEREAS, Safety Camp offers a variety of fun activities where law enforcement, fire
and ambulance professionals build important relationships with and mentor the children as they
learn how to be safer in their daily lives. The presentations are interactive and provide campers
time to practice new skills. Course topics change every year to address as many unintentional
injury areas as possible; and

WHEREAS, Safety Camp is dependent upon private and corporate donations so that
registration fees can be kept to a minimum; and

WHEREAS, The Northern Star Council has donated the use of the Rum River Scout
Camp to the City of Ramsey to use for camp each year since 2002; and

WHEREAS, Bob Litke specifically has been instrumental in the smooth running of
camp by assisting with prepping and maintaining our campsites before and during camp; and

WHEREAS, Ramsey's Safety Camp is very different from the rest of the municipals
within Anoka County that host Safety Camps, because we are the only one that is truly run in a
camp atmosphere where our campers not only learn about every day safety, they get to
experience a beautiful, natural setting, which many children never get a chance to be exposed to.
