CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
Topic Report: Consider Formation of a Study
Group to Review the Rum River Scout Camp
Property
By: Heidi A. Nelson, Interim City Administrator

Background:

Staff would like to discuss with Council the formation of a Study Group to review
options for the 120 acre Rum River Scout Camp property. Staff is proposing a Study
Group membership that would consist of groups and individuals that would have the
knowledge of resources that would be available to conserve and/or develop the parcel to
maximize the public benefit.

Such a group would consist of representatives from City Council, City staff, the Boy
Scouts, Anoka County, Met Council, the DNR, the Minnesota Land Trust, or similar
organizations. The goal of the study group would be to identify options and resources
that would be available in regard to the future use ofthe Rum River Scout Camp and
report back to the Council to then begin a broader public discussion. A larger task force
could be formed at that time that would involve neighboring property owners,
development interests, and/or representatives from adjacent communities.

Action Statement:

Provide directiol1 regarding forming a Study Group to review the Rum River Boy Scout
Camp.

Reviewed by: & I n
City Administrator: ~

CCWS:

11/05/2008
