CASE #5 <br />CONSIDER NO PARKING RESTRICTIONS AT CORNERS <br />IN k8MSEY TOWN CENTER. <br />By Steven Jankowski, City Engineer <br />Background: <br />Staff has recently received several complaints from the tenants of 7533 Sunwood Drive (Court of <br />Appeals) regarding vehicles parking so close to the corner of Sapphire Street that visibility is <br />impaired when pulling out onto Sunwood Drive. This issue will become more prevalent as the <br />Town Center develops. City Code section 6.03.08 subl (f) restricts parking within 20 feet of a <br />cross walk at an intersection. Curb markings are required to make this fact known to the general <br />public, The Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) allows an option <br />for the use of curb markings as follows: <br />"Curb markings without word marking or signs may be used to convey a <br />general prohibition by statute of parking within a specified distance of a <br />STOP sign, driveway, fire hydrant, or crosswalk," <br />Recommendation, <br />Staff recommends that it be directed to restrict parking within 20 feet of crosswalks within the <br />Ramsey Town Center as traffic conditions and development warrant by painting the curbing <br />yellow without the use of signs. <br />Action: <br />Motion to recommend to City Council that staff be directed to restrict parking within 20 feet of <br />crosswalks within the Ramsey Town Center as traffic conditions and development warrant by <br />painting the curbing yellow without the use of signs. <br />:Reviewed By: <br />Director.pf Public Works /Principal City Engineer <br />Assistant City Engineer <br />Public Works Street Supervisor <br />City Attorney <br />Chief of Polio <br />:PW: 10/21/08 <br />—121- <br />
