CASE # 5 <br />Consider amendment to Chapter 4 of the City <br />Code by adding a section permitting disconnection of City Water Service <br />By: William K. Goodrich, City Attorney <br />Background: <br />The recent significant increase in residential home foreclosures has caused staff to be concerned <br />about vacant residential properties and continued water service to unheated homes.. Therefore, we <br />have drafted an ordinance amendment which is intended to make it easier to disconnect water <br />service from these properties in an attempt limit freezing water pipe damage. <br />Enclosure: <br />Proposed ordinance amendment to Chapter 4.40 to the City Code. <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends introduction of the enclosed ordinance. <br />Funding Source: <br />Current city utility and building inspection staff will be conducting a vacancy verification process <br />and water utility shut -off at the curb. No additional required. <br />Council Action: <br />Motion to introduce Ordinance 08 -11 which is an ordinance adding Section 4.40.06 to the City <br />Code which section is titled "Disconnecting City Water Service ". <br />Review Checklist: <br />City Administrt <br />Director of Publi <br />Building Official <br />
