Observations:

There are a number of issues and alternative actions that might be considered within this area.
Below is a summary of several courses of action along with potential benefits and disadvantages:

Closure of the 47 Median at 142nd Ave - This would result in the elimination of aU left turns
from and onto TH 47 at this location.

Advantages: This would eliminate connict which have resulted in accidents in the
past and would result in the safest possible intersection.

Disadvantages: It would result in a significant impact on access to businesses located in
the commercial area, particularly those which are dependant on access to maintain
profitability.

Closure (~f 142nd Avenue between the Frontage Road and Argon Street - The closure would still
allow TH 47 access to the frontage road.

Advantages: This would reduce cut through traffic which is occurring on 143rd Avenue,
1421ld Lane, and Argon Street to TH 47 and the adjacent commercial area.

Disadvantages: This would result in a longer trip distances from the neighborhood to
southbound destinations, particularly those on the southern end of Argon Street.

Closure of142nd Avenue between the Frontage Road and Argon Street and Opening the
connection on Argon Street between the lv/aUard Pond and Flintwood Hills neighborhoods

Advantages:

. Eliminates limited access concerns expressed by both Police and Fire into a
neighborhood populated with a,large percentage of elderly who may require
emergency services.
. Would shorten travel distances for both neighborhoods as alternative routes both
north and south would be available.

Disadvantages:
. There would be an increase in the traffic through Mallard Ponds from the
Flintwood neighborhood of about 150 vehicles per day (about 1 vehicle every 4
minutes during the busiest'hour of the day).
. Argon Street in the Flintwood neighborhood would receive 50 to 100 daily trips
from the Mallard Ponds Neighborhood.
. The areas near the existing gate would see the largest percent changes in traffic
volume.

4
