Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that they would be using a gate that shuts on its own so that
dogs are not able to get out. He advised that they would also check into the liability issue and
advised that children without an adult would not be allowed into that area.

Commissioner LaMere confirmed if the gates could be locked during times when baseball games
are ongoing if needed.

Commissioner Backous questioned if there are limits on the number of dogs that can be in that
area at one time.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that they would look into those specifics once the project
picks up.

Commissioner Shryock thought that if this were to become popular enough they would research
other locations.

Commissioner Backous thought that it was the perfect place to install this feature.

Commissioner Shryock 'commented that this was an ideal setting and thought it would be
interested to see how the deer react to that area.

Commissioner Hanson questioned if a smaller area would be installed for smaller dogs to prevent
friction.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood thought that this would be a good test to see what is needed and
could add a smaller section for smaller dogs in the future.

Commissioner Shryock questioned if the option to fence in a smaller area could be added to the
quote.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that he would do that.

Commissioner Hanson questioned if the back area behind the dog area could be mowed to help
prevent ticks.

Parks Supervisor Riverblood thought that the area would provide a variety of things, with the
shorter grass and longer grass for hunting dogs.

Commissioner Shryock advised that this would be a trial opportunity and that there would be
several opportunities to tweak the plan in the future.

The consensus of the Commission was to move forward on this project and Parks Supervisor
Riverblood would report back with information.

Commissioner Shryock questioned if an agenda item could be added to the November meeting to
review the lawful gambling fund and how it is replenished.

Park and Recreation Commission/October 9, 2008
Page 4. of 6
