In contemplating potential projects/initiatives for 2009, Staff thought it
would be prudent to reiterate the role of the Board as outlined in City Code. The primary goal of
the Board is to ".. .review, consider, initiate and recommend to City Council such policies, plans
or projects which will enhance and preserve the natural environment of the City". The Board's
scope shall include, but not necessarily be limited to, matters of the preservation of the
community forest, water quality, wetland preservation, ground water protection, control of soil
erosion and air, noise and light pollution. The 2008 work plan (Exhibit 2), with edits identifying
items completed, ongoing or yet to be tackled, is inCluded for reference.

Observations:

2008 was another active year for the EPB. Following are a few of the highlights ofthe Board's
accomplishments:
. Arbor Day Tree Planting. Board members donated two (2) months worth of stipends to
purchase and plant seven (7) trees, in recognition of Arbor Day, in Riverdale Park.
. 2008 Environmental Expo. Staff will
than prepare the work plan for consideration at the January meeting and subsequently forward the
work plan to City Council for consideration.

EPB Action

Based on discussion.

EPB: 12/1/08
