Councilmember Olson stated that the way this is designed, the entrance isn't squared off with the <br />opening in the median and thinks the concrete thing in the middle confuses people and should be <br />removed. She stated that she doesn't think a porkchop that allows a left hand turn will cure that. <br />Councilmember Dehen asked if it was the City's function to correct the center median and <br />correct the porkchop into Licensing Bureau. <br />Public Works Director Olson stated that. the City can support. any action that MnDot pursues, but <br />Highway 10 is their responsibility. <br />Councilmember Dehen asked if the City can let MnDot know about the. accident history and let <br />them decide what they want to do. <br />Chair Elvig stated that the drawback to that approach is that MnDot will more than likely shut <br />down the. opening. <br />Councilmember Olson asked about the accident history for the other side of Highway 10 <br />Public Works Director Olson stated that the accident history presented is for the intersection, as a <br />whole. <br />.Chair Elvig .stated he -likes Councilmember Olson's idea about removing the concrete median.. <br />He stated that he also likes the idea of narrowing the length, which would be a simple starting <br />step. <br />Public Works Director Olson stated that he is just trying to think how this affects Lano Trucking. <br />Councilmember Dehen stated that people will have to go down to Thurston Avenue; but if they <br />have a trailer they can't do a U turn there. <br />Councilmember Olson. asked if the porkchop was put in and no left hand turns were allowed, <br />whether that can be posted on Highway 10. <br />City Engineer Jankowski stated that would be MnDot's jurisdiction. <br />Councilmember Olson stated that she hesitates to mess around with the intersection when it <br />comes to Lano because she thinks the biggest issue is the License Bureau. <br />City Engineer Jankowski stated that U turns are prohibited from westbound to east bound <br />Highway 10. <br />City Administrator Ulrich asked if there was any sense in restricting traffic at the License Bureau <br />to-right in and right out only. <br />Public Works Director Olson stated that if the City starts talking to the State, they may very well <br />close the median. <br />Public Works Committee /October 21, 2008 <br />-Page 8 of 11 <br />-148- <br />
