CASE # CONSIDER RELOCATION OF CROSSWALK ON RAMSEY BOULEVARD NORTH OF 149TH AVENUE By Steven Jankowski, City Engineer Background: For many years there has been a marked crosswalk across Ramsey Boulevard at the north end of the Tom Thumb property approximately 400 feet north of 149t" Avenue. Presumably this was a reasonable location for pedestrians o cross Ramsey Boulevard to get to one of the few locations providing neighborhood services. With the development of the town house neighborhood south of 149t" Avenue on the west side of Ramsey Boulevard the pedestrian population base likely to cross Ramsey Boulevard has shifted southward. It would appear to be beneficial to relocate this cross walk from its current location to the intersection of 149t" Avenue. The sight distance at this location appears to be adequate and this location would also tie the crosswalk into the developing trail system which is now placed along the south side of 149t" .Avenue and the west side of Ramsey Boulevard as shown on the attached illustration of the area. In addition the cross walk would be at a street intersection where motorists are more likely to expect a pedestrian crossing. Recommendation: Since Ramsey Boulevard is a County highway under the jurisdiction of Anoka County, it is staff recommendation that the City request the Anoka County Highway department to consider the relocation of the existing crosswalk to the southerly side of 1491h Avenue at Ramsey Boulevard. Action: Motion to recommend to City Council that Anoka County Highway- department be requested to consider the relocation of the existing crosswalk to the southerly side of 149t" Avenue at Ramsey Boulevard.
