CASE # 3

SUNFISH LAKE PARK - APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor

Background:

The Master Plan for Sunfish Lake Park was approved by City Council earlier this year, with an
appropriation from the Park Trust Fund to develop Plans and Specification in the fall of 2008.
Included with your agenda is an 11 x 17 inch version of the plans and specs (the full size set will
be at the meeting). At November's regular meeting, the Commission provided general approval
for the entrance sign, kiosk, shelter, pier, and canoe rack.

The purpose of this case is to recommend approval of the Plans and Specifications to City
Council to let bids for the park's development for the spring of 2009. For the meeting, staffwill
prepare an estimate for the various elements of the project. .

Observations:

The plans presented are to be considered 95% complete, with only details like parking lot
lightIng and a few minor details to be sorted out. As for the bid documents, they will be .
organized with a couple of 'bid alternates' such as separating the deck off from the shelter, and
.., the tree and shrub installation - such that if necessary, city forces can perfonn some of the labor
to complete the project within the budgeted allotment. .

. In addition to delivery of the park on the lake that was committed to as part of the platting of the
Village of Sunfish Lake; the timing of construction should provide for some very competitive
bids. .

Funding Source:

The funding for this project is the combination of $350,000 from the Park Trust Fund identified
in the 2009 Parks Capital Improvement Program, together with the Trail Fund for the trail that is
to be constructed from Sunwood Drive, to the subdivision south of Alpine Drive.

Commission Action:

Motion to' approve Plans and Specifications for Sunfish Lake Park, and recommend that City
Council obtain bids for the park's construction.

Reviewed by:
Director of Public W orkslPrincipal City Engineer

P &R: 12/11/08 .

-5-
