CASE # 4

DISCUSS COMMUNITY GARDENS
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor

Background:

The purpose of this case is to discuss development of one or more community garden spaces in
the City. Community gardens were an outcome of the 'difficult economic times of World War II,
then known as Victory Gardens - and continue to be very popular today around the metro to this
day. .

Community gardens are highly social settings, represent healthy living choices, a different aspect
of recreation, and are also valued by residents without land to garden in, like townhome owners
as well as renters. If time permits, staff would like to explore a couple of ideas with the
Commission relative to adding this opportunity for Ramsey residents.

Commission Action:

None required.

Reviewed by:
Director of Public W orks/Principal City Engineer
Civil Engineer II

P &R: 12/11/08

-7-
