CITY COUNCIL <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br />ANOKA COUNTY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />The Ramsey City Council conducted its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 12, 1991 at the <br />Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota 55303. <br /> <br />Members Present: <br /> <br />Mayor James Gilbertson <br />Councilmember Sheila Beyer <br />Councilmember Richard Cich <br />Councilmember Glen Hardin <br />Councilmember Kenneth Peterson <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />Acting City Administrator/Finance Officer Sandra Ashley <br />City Attorney William Goodrich <br />City Engineer Steve Jankowski <br />Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Mayor Gilbertson called the regular City Council to order at 7:32 p.m. and led in the Pledge of <br />Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br /> <br />Mr. Art Randio, 1404 South Broadway, Sauk Rapids - asked that the Flintwood Hills 5th Addition <br />be added on to tonight's agenda. <br /> <br />Mayor Gilbertson agreed that it could be added to the agenda. <br /> <br />Dean Kapler, Ramsey Fire Department - informed City Council that since January 22, 1991, the <br />Ramsey Fire Department has responded to 10 calls. One call included car extracation which <br />allowed the use of the Hearst tool donated by the Ramsey Lions Club. <br /> <br />Claudia Dodge, Community Education Coordinator was present to give an update on the Keep <br />Ramsey Clean Committee and to familiarize the City Council with the Keep America Beautiful <br />(KAB) Program. The KAB was developed in 1953 as a non-profit organization dedicated to litter <br />reduction and recycling and to teach individuals solid waste management. The Keep Ramsey <br />Clean Committee is a part of the KAB system. The Committee has successfully sponsored the <br />Ramsey Clean-up Day for two years and are credited with 15% of litter reduction. They created <br />and implemented education projects at Ramsey Elementary School. Future plans include Arbor <br />Day events on April 26 whereby trees will be planted at Ramsey Elementary School and at City <br />Hall. Trees will be given to the students to take home to plant in their own yards also. She added <br />that the Mayor will be asked to participate in the tree planting exercise. On April 27, 1991, Earth <br />Day, an environmental expo is planned. The expo will offer fun and educational opportunities to <br />learn about animals and the environment. There will be entertainment such as musicians, magic <br />acts, clowns and food. Some of the children's events are a junk sculpture contest, coloring books, <br />a Mr. Roger's tape and more. There will be round table discussions regarding well water, septic <br />tanks, oak wilt, recycling in the City of Ramsey, kinds of trees to plant, composting and grading. <br />She extended an invitation to the Councilmembers to participate in the round table discussions. <br />She added that if the Councilmembers didn't contact her to volunteer, she would be calling them. <br />She stated that the Clean-up day permits would be issued that day also along with the green expo <br />and the tree sale.
