4. Terms
The Human Resources Manager or Assistant City Administrator will
forward the recommendation of the interview panel to the City Council.
The recommendation will contain a copy of the applicant's letter of
interest and the interview panel's rationale for the recommendation.
Except where a vacancy unexpectedly occurs in the middle of a calendar
year, all new appointments or reappointments to regular terms on a City
board or commission will occur in January of the year. This is to allow
the current members of the City Council the opportunity to review and
select individuals for seats on boards and commissions.
d. Notification to applicants
After the City Council has acted on the recommendation of the interview panel,
the Human Resources Manager of Assistant City Administrator will notify all
applicants of the results of the process.
Board and Commission members shall serve four -year terms. There will be no
limit to the number of terms that can be served.
5. Reapplication process
a) Letter of intent
Members of City boards and commissions who wish to serve a consecutive term
of office must notify the City Council of their intent at least two months before
the expiration of the current term of office. To remind the incumbent of the
impending deadline, the Human Resources Manager or Assistant City
Administrator will notify commission members three months in advance of the
expiration of their terms and invite them to complete and submit an application
highlighting accomplishments, personal contributions to the commission, and
ideas for improving the effectiveness of the commission for review by the
interview panel.
The interview panel will meet in person to discuss and vote on whether or not a
recommendation for reappointment will be made to the City Council. If it is determined
that the interview panel does not wish to reappoint the incumbent, that individual's seat
will be advertised. If it is determined that the incumbent will be reappointed, the
incumbent will be notified of his/her new term dates.
31P
