He thanked Village Bank for their contribution <br />in the project and suggested. partnering with them again and/or other businesses in the <br />community for future tree plantings. <br /> <br />Board Member Max thought that without a lot of work the tree plantings could be videotaped <br />and played back on QCTV to educate the public. <br /> <br />Chairperson McDilda suggested partnering ,with the Parks and Recreation Commission for the <br />event. <br /> <br />Board Member Max suggested involving the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts for the tree plantings to <br />bring in other members of the community. <br /> <br />Chairperson McDilda thought that these organizations may be willing to contribute to the tree <br />plantings and explained that the event could turn into a more substantial tree planting. <br /> <br />Environmental Coordinator Anderson clarified that the Board would like the tree plantings to <br />relate to Arbor Day. <br /> <br />Board Member Sibilski suggested constructing natural areas within the parks to also act as an <br />educational tool for the public. <br /> <br />Chairperson McDilda stated that there is not a good understanding of what a rain garden is and <br />thought that it would be good to create a rain garden within one of the parks. He advised that the <br />public could then visit that site to see an example, and they could then build one within their own <br />yard. <br /> <br />Board Member Max agreed with the demonstration aspects of the projects to show the public <br />that it really is not that hard to do most of the things that are discussed. <br /> <br />Chairperson McDilda thought that they could possibly tape a tutorial that could be placed online <br />for residents. <br /> <br />Board Member Max thought that water should be treated the same as recycling, with the example <br />of rain gardens and rain barrels. <br /> <br />, Chairperson McDilda stated that there are a lot more of those things in third world countries, <br />where water is seen as more precious. He suggested the theme for the 2009 work plan be water <br />conservation. <br /> <br />Board Member Stodola stated that water conservation had been the topic of the EPB booth at the <br />Environmental Expo. <br /> <br />Chairperson McDilda stated that there are a lot of people that own irrigation systems and do not <br />know how to properly run them. He thought that the Board should educate the public on how to <br />use their irrigation system. He explained that a pamphlet could be passed out with that <br />information when a resident moves to the City and inherits an irrigation system, or when a <br />resident comes to the City to apply for a permit. He stated that he personally has a passion for <br />water conservation. He stated that the City of Ramsey has one of the highest water usage rates in <br />Environmental Policy Board / December 1, 2008 <br />Page 3 of7 <br />
