There would be no cost for <br />striping the lane, no cost to maintain the striping, and no need to widen the street at all. <br />So, given what I have argued, here's what I think might the best. . El and then f <br />plan for a parking lane, forget about sidewalks, widen the street if the street. I've seen thi <br />the City is still hung up on walking; just stripe a walking lane on <br />elsewhere and it appears to work and I think it makes a lot of sense. This approach would <br />eliminate separate construction and maintenance cost of a sidewalk; but still provide a <br />reasonably safe place for walkers (and even cyclists), who for the last 20 years have been <br />able to safely walk on these streets with no demarcations at all. <br />I hope you and the city planners will give my thoughts some serious consideration. <br />Sincerely, <br />Gary C.
