To the City of Ramsey . RECD DEG 0 2008
Re: 142nd Ave and Argon closure
Presented on this day Tuesday December 30th 2008, is a
petition from the the Ramsey residents that would be most
be adversely affected by the proposed closure at 142nd Ave
and Argon St. The general consensus is that the road not
be closed at all, but if it is deemed that it has to be done, the
residents prefer it be closed on the northern side of Argon at
142nd Ln (across Argon St) instead of the current proposed
site that would cause a. great hardship for most of the
residents on the south half of Argon St. Also, if the road is
closed at all, the Ramsey Fire Department requires two
different accesses to a neighborhood so the dead end on
Argon should be opened for this reason. The residents also
do not understand why a traffic signal cannot be installed at
142nd Ave & Hwy 47. The City of Ramsey and the DOT
have continuously said that the lights would be too close
together and cause congestion, but nothing is ever done
about the backup by. the County Fair Ground's railroad tracks
• that has backed traffic up in the morning all the way back to
the strip mall by the old Snyders location and in the evening
all the way to the ramp on Hwy 10. The traffic lights can also
be timed (per Mayor Gamec) so that it would minimize the
delay. That area of Hwy 47 is zoned commercial, so there is
no justifiable reason why there cannot be a traffic signal
there. The traffic light would also prevent the accidents that
have been occuring at the intersection (some deadly).
Blocking the road is not a reasonable option as that would
also further hurt the businesses along Hwy 47. I would be
more than happy to meet with the City of Ramsey engineers
or the DOT to resolve these issues to everyone's
satisfaction. The residents are distressed that the City would
listen to a very small amount of Argon Street residents that
want the road closed because of a few cars cutting through
