• ' Can the position remain unfilled temporarily or permanently? Please
explain.
If the cleaning contract is cancelled and the position remains
unfilled, cleaning City facilities will take precedence over
building and equipment repair and maintenance. Regular
maintenance responsibilities include monthly air - handler
maintenance, waxing floors, painting, and completing
unexpected projects. If this position is not filled, the condition of
city facilities and equipment will suffer over time.
• Can the position be filled internally?
The position will be advertised internally as required by the
AFSCME labor agreement; however, staff is uncertain as to
whether there are qualified and interested employees.
• What is the impact (i.e., to residents, business owners, employees, and/or
operations) if the position is not filled?
On a daily basis, at least one (and often more than one)
community group uses the Municipal Center, Fire 1 or Park
Center for meetings or gatherings. A significant amount of staff
time goes into preparing for and cleaning up after these meetings
and gatherings. Without this part -time position, the current staff
members will not be able to dedicate the hours required for set-
up and take -down for community groups. If the facilities cannot
be adequately maintained, this will affect residents' desire to use
the facilities as well as the City's rental revenue.
If the position is not filled employees may be forced to work in
conditions less comfortable than they are used and/or
departments may have to take on a greater role in maintaining
their areas. Staff will also have to wait longer for maintenance
projects to be completed
