,,' ., REC'D DEe 01 2008 f Dear City Hall, My name is Amy Edgerton and I am 14 years old. Heave near the edge of Ramsey near Burns Township, on a small. dirtroad.off of County Road 5. I am writing toyou":because I feel that there'arenot enou$h street Iights.around.where I live.. I think it would make driving at night a whole lot easier if you put in more street lamps. I've often noticed that while driving home at night, it is difficult to see while driving on the northern part of NowthenBlvd. The. only street lights near my house and around that area are lamps on corners, which are often far apart. This makes it harder for people to see while driving, therefore increasing thech-ancesofaccidents;6ften'these'aeoldents"are.not'car- colnsions,'butwh~n cars hit:.:" . . nocturnal animals like young dear or raccoons. Because of this, especially in this time of year, I see many young dears, raccoons, squirrels and other animals left dead on the road. A few years ago, while my mom and sister were driving home, they hit a dear which rolled down the side of the car. This accident dented the -car, leftJurbetween the doors, and ripped off one ofthe side view mirrors. Noone was hurt, fortunately~but we believe the dear did not make it. If-there were more street lights, accidents like' these would be less-likely because people would be able to see the road further ahead. Another reason it would be a good ideCl to put in more street lights is that people would be less likely to have their high.beam lights on while driving, which damages the other drivers eyes. While it is okay to have them on in areas where there are hardly any oncoming cars, a busy road like Nowthen is not a 800dplace. High beam lights are very affective when there is not much light on the road, but it damages the other drivers eyes. If there were more street lights; people wouldn't need to use their high beam Ijghts as much'on this road, there for making it a safer place for all drivers. Last, ":,orestrf!etlamps would help because it would. be easier for people to see the road signs at night. If you aren'table to read what the speed limit is, or that there is a sharp turn up ahead, then you won't know. If the road were lit up more, then we could make sure that all street lamps were read clearly by drivers coming from both directions. ' I hope that you will consider all these reasons, and hopefully you will decide that it would be a good thing for the' city to' putin"morestreet light near my house: If this were to -happen, I do believe that _ there would be fewer accidents involving animals, that people would not use their high beams as much, and so that people would be able to see the street signs more clearly.
