He stated that she was informed
about the current lighting policy and that this would be discussed at a Public Works Committee
meeting. He reviewed the eligibility requirements according to the City policy. He stated that
although there are gaps in place with the existing lights, the goal has been to have a light at
intersections. He stated that he drove through the area and noted that one intersection in this area
is missing a light and it is at the intersection of 173rd and Nowthen Boulevard.

Councilmember Dehen asked what it costs annually for a street light.

City Engineer Jankowski stated that it is about $90 per year, per light. He stated that there is also
a similar situation on Ute and Alpine.

Public Works Director Olson stated that, before the City had the priority street light policy, all of
the high speed, high volume/speed streets were dark and you didn't have any idea when the
intersection was coming up.

Chair Elvig stated that he thinks this is a pretty solid policy.

Councilmember McGlone asked about the costs to put the light in.

Assistant City Engineer Himmer stated that it will cost about $1,000, which would leave $14,000
for the remainder of the year.

Public Works Committee / January 20, 2009
Page 2 of 9
