<br />Councilmember Haas Steffen reiterated that staff should look at making a change. She added <br />that she would like to. see Council and the staff educate the City's residents on a whole host of <br />things. All of these things cost money. Weare at a point in time when communicating with <br />people is essential because they are at unrest. If combining the hearings is a better way to do this, <br />she would like to see this happen. <br /> <br />Councilmember Beyer stated that we had a part in the Charter where certain members of the <br />Council meet with certain areas of the City and that was deleted from the Charter. Maybe it's <br />time to do that again. <br /> <br />Councilmember Haas Steffen felt that how you advertise and present things is very important. <br /> <br />Councilmember Beyer stated that maybe it's the climate and added that she's been wanting to do <br />something to improve the appearance of the City for a long time. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec asked about the costs involved in mailing notification for the public hearings and <br />the administrative costs. He suggested maybe the disbursing of quite a large amount of money <br />could be eliminated. <br /> <br />Mr. Jankowski did not know the costs of publication but offered to check. <br /> <br />Mr. Schroeder suggested we could go with the standard way for this program and review the <br />impact of doing it the way Mr. Jankowski is suggesting. There is no reason to rush into the <br />change. <br /> <br />Motion by Councilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Zimmerman to recommend <br />Council direct the City Engineer to prepare a feasibility study for the 1997 Street Maintenance <br />Program. <br /> <br />Motion carried. V oting Yes: Councilmembers Beyer and Zimmerman. V oting No: None. <br />Abstain: Councilmember Haas Steffen (as she had not yet been sworn in as Councilmember). . <br /> <br />Case #4: <br /> <br />Discussion of Policy for Processing Traffic Calming Requests <br /> <br />Due to lack of time, this case was not discussed. Mr. Jankowski explained this is ongoing and it <br />will appear on the next agenda. <br /> <br />.
