informative and appreciated. He added that a vice-chairperson has to be appointed for the Fire
Board and this could be it case for the next meeting which would be held in April or May. The
new members also have to be sworn in. He added that Sandra Ashley, Dave Griffin and himself
will set up the agendas.

Upon inquiry regarding the morale of the fire fighters, Boardmember Drahos replied that it is on
the upswing now. The liability issue was a big key issue, but with the passing of the Hartford
plan, that has been resolved.

Chief Griffin stated that the department lost some members but he feels the people he has now are
the quality people you can count on.

Boardmember Kapler commented that every time the fire trucks leave the bay, the morale
increases. We are working together to try to improve.

Councilmember Peterson reported there was a garage fire in his neighborhood and for some
people, this was the first time they saw Ramsey's Fire Department in action and they were very
impressed.

Councihnember Cich mentioned the good response time for a car fire in December. He also
expressed being impressed with the Fire Department.

Councihnember Cich stated that prior to the next Fire Board meeting, he would like the agenda
packets completed and distributed ahead of time. He feels that receiving cases labeled 'information
available at the meeting" is unfair and doesn't allow enough time for review. Councilmember
Peterson expressed his agreement with Councilmember Cich.

Councilmember Cich suggested Chief Griffin should impress upon the fire fighters personal
safety, excessive speed for conditions, using caution when crossing intersections, etc..

Chief Griffin replied that the department does repeatedly drill safety.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Councihnember Cich and seconded by Boardmember Drahos to adjourn the Fire Board
Meeting.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairman Peterson, Councilmember Cich, Boardmembers Drahos
and Kapler. Voting No: None. Absent: Boardmember Sharp.

The meeting adjourned at 8:47 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

/_.,/' Reco~<li ng Secretary

Sandra Ashley
Acting City Administrator

Fire Board/February 20, 1991
