Assistant City Administrator Nelson suggested that the Council try this first to see if this would work before including the other boards and commissions. Councilmember Elvig stated that he does not relish carrying a laptop around all the time and has concerns about it not working when it is too cold. Councilmember Jeffrey stated that he was initially skeptical but has become a convert. Mayor Ramsey stated that he thinks there was $7,000 in the budget just for paper. Councilmember Elvig stated that he is not sure how much money will be saved and does not relish the idea. Councilmember McGlone stated that he could go either way. Councilmember Wise stated that he likes the idea, in concept. Assistant City Administrator Nelson stated that perhaps the City can ease into this. Councilmember Elvig asked that staff give him a jump drive with his packet and he can try it. Mayor Ramsey stated that there are two extra laptops in the City that could be used. Assistant City Administrator stated that she will send out packets on jump drives this Friday. Councilmember Look stated that he thinks public accessibility to private laptops should be discussed. He stated that if there is a laptop used for City business, your personal laptop is subject to search and seizure. He stated that if this proceeds, he would ask how many Councilmembers are open to using their own personal laptops versus City equipment. Mayor Ramsey stated that he spoke to City Attorney Goodrich on this and was told that if the computer was searched, the private information would be left alone. He stated that if this is done, there will be City owned laptops and the Council will need to be careful about what they keep. on them.
