COMMISSION /STAFF INPUT <br />Youth Athletic Association — Year in Preview Meeting <br />• Water Smart Landscaping to be held on Wednesday, May 13th <br />• Rain Gardens Course to be held Saturday, June 13 <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that earlier this month the City had met with several youth <br />athletic associations. <br />Commissioner Hansen thought the meeting went well, in regard to the economic times. He <br />recognized that cuts would need to be made within the parks department, along with families <br />trying to come up with the funds to join the sports. He advised that they are trying to determine <br />methods of allowing everyone interested to play sports. <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood appreciated the help of the youth associations through volunteerism <br />in the parks. <br />Commissioner Backous advised that he was able to walk the trails last week and noticed a lot of <br />garbage. He thought that possibly a good fundraising opportunity would be for . the youth to <br />adopt a section of trails to keep clean during the year, which would also save staff time.. <br />Commissioner Erickson thought something was advertised in the Newsletter regarding that item. <br />Parks and Utilities Supervisor advised that is an option being pushed. He advised that one <br />individual in the City volunteers and helps to clean the trails, through many hundreds of hours. <br />He appreciated the help of that retired individual, along with others. <br />Commissioner Backous thought that the youth could obtain pledges for cleaning trails. <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood advised that the water smart landscaping would be held on <br />Wednesday, May 13 and would be sponsored by the conservation district. He stated that <br />another opportunity would be the rain garden course on Saturday, June 13 He advised that <br />usually in April the outdoor meeting schedule is reviewed and is something that has been very <br />popular. He advised that the June joint meeting with City Council would be proposed to be a <br />ribbon cutting ceremony at the Skate Park at Alpine Park. He advised that along with the budget <br />cuts, the recording services are discussed as being cut. He advised that it would be discussed <br />more in April but advised that the outdoor meeting schedule may need to be cut, <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />Motion by Commissioner Shryock, seconded by Commissioner Erickson, to adjourn the meeting. <br />Motion carried. <br />The Park and Recreation Commission meeting adjourned at 8:47 p.m. <br />Park and Recreation Commission/March 12, 2009 <br />Page 14 of 15 <br />
