AMERICA RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT FUNDING FOR THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER TRAILS By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor P &R: 04/09/09 Commission Action: Reviewed by: Director of Public Works /Principal City Engineer CASE# 3 Background: As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) the Metropolitan Council has announced a project solicitation through the Transportation Advisory Board for alternative transportation projects like bicycle and related facilities. There is approximately $7.5 million available to the seven- county region for Transportation Enhancements projects from the ARRA. The announcement and deadline to respond with a proposal to the Metropolitan Council by Friday, April 3, has not allowed the usual amount notification time to receive pre - approvals from the Commission or City Council. The purpose of this case is to communicate to the Commission that the Cities of Anoka and Ramsey have submitted an application for these funds for a trail and sidewalk project, connecting Anoka's Mississippi Community Park to Ramsey's Riverdale Park. The route would be through King's Island and along Riverdale Drive. This is an exciting opportunity and a project that has been actively pursued for over 15 yea Additional information will be available at the meeting.
