There was a Consensus to include Commissioner Cleveland's suggested language that the
vacancy can be filled by a unanimous vote of the Council or with a Councilmember
liaison, in the next draft.

Vice-Chair Deemer suggested that b~ed on tonight's discussion, he would like' to' see ,
two ,options presented at the next Charter Commission meeting. He stated that he feels
there should be the do~ument as presented tonight by City Att:orney Goodrich and one
that reflects Commissioner Cleveland's recommendations.

City Attorney Goodrich stated that he would get an absolute answer on whether the City
can have someone begin their term 'right away in November and bring back a few
versio~s of the document, based on tonight's discussion.

Vice-Chair Deemer asked if the City needed to hold a primary election. He asked if there
were fewer, than three candidates, whether the City could just hold a regular election.

City Attorney Goodrich stated that this was the reason the City went to a primary system
in the first place"so regular elections were not so "chaotic".

COmrl:1issioner Erickson stated that he thinks this should be consistent and the City should
always have a primary.

Commissioners Cleveland and McKinney expressed agreement that consistency is
important and that primary elections should be held.

City Attorney Goodrich stated that he would mak~ the suggested changes for the next
meeting. He stated that he would like to make a real effort to ensure that as many Charter
Commission members as possible can be present so we ~an move on from this section. ,

The Commission discussed possible dates and decided to hold a meeting on June 12,
2008. '

Commissioner Erickson noted that he would be out of town on that date.

City Attorney Goodrich asked that Cotnmissioner Erickson give him any comments he
has prior to leaving town.

ADJOURNMENT

There was i:l.
