Commission Update #1

Discussion for Future Meetings
By: Jo Thieling, City Clerk

Background:

1) Schedule the next meeting date and topic(s) for the agenda.

2) Possible agenda item:
a) Amend Charter Language re Ordinance Reading. The Charter currently states that
when Council adopts an ordinance it will be read in its entirety at the meeting or that
Council must vote to waive the reading of the ordinance prior to its adoption. It was
thought that this stipulation was written at a time when there weren't so many
avenues to make things public. The ordinance is written up for the agenda ~ which is
posted on the City's website as well as a paper copy placed in the reception area of
the Municipal Center. The information may be requested by residents and distributed
to residents via email as well. Long story short, the Commission may determine that
the reading of the ordinance or voting to waive the reading is no longer a necessary
step in this process. If the Charter Commission is interested in recommending this
amendment, a case could be placed on the next agenda for action.

Commission Action:

Based upon discussion.

Reviewed by:

City Clerk
City Attorney

Charter: 04/23/09

-44-
