In December 2008, the Park and Recreation-€ommission
recommended that these monies be directed to the community garden project. Staff recommends
these dollars be allocated to this project upon a match of $5,000 to be secured by the Ramsey
Foundation. Staff also recommends that the $12,000 within the Water Utility operating budget
be approved for irrigating the approximate one-acre site whether the community garden proposal
moves forward or not. .

/

(It should be noted, that in the unlikely event that the community garden project is not a success
for whatever reason, the City can simplyre-seed any disturbed areas, and return the site to
mowed lawn -but now one that is irrigated.)

Council Action:

Motion to authorize staff to proceed with organizing a volunteer community garden board to
implement a Community Garden program at the water tower #1 location.

and-

Motion to approve $12,000 in Water Utility funds for irrigating the water tower #1, and releasing
$5,000 from the Park Trust Fund upon a dedicated match by the Ramsey Foundation for the
Community Garden project.

Reviewed by: Copies to:

Parks Supervisor ~. amsey Foundation
Director of Public Works

~~~~::tor: )::{;
CC: 4/28/09
-204-
