March 13, 1987
TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF RAMSEY, MINNESOTA
RECEIVED
RE: PUBLIC HEARING ON THE ZONING OF GATEWAY NORTH AIRPORT.
MAR 1 3 1987
To Whom It May Concern:
AAS a............
It seems doubtless to me I need to state my support for the airport
zoning for it to be made law. I am sure that if I made no objections
to it,as did hundreds of affected people, that informed council that
runs our city for us1will pass it into law. That is exactly what I
want and I think that is what most everyone at the public hearing wants.
What I heard at the hearing was questions from people wondering how to
deal with the eminent changes caused by the new airport. For instance,
the people from the Tom Thumb store seemed satisfied to have a forum
to say they would rather not move, but to have things stay as they are.
A few other people commented on property values lowing. When property
values don't drop but rather rise because of a better land use they'll
be happy.
I had talked to 12 homeowners the 2 nights before the hearing. What I
found was everyone said they were for the airport as proposed. They all
said that they were frustrated with people proposing changes in their
lives. They were all willing to have the changes happen but they refused
to jump for joy over them.. These homeowners in the "A,B,C areas also
held the sentiment that the "squeeky wheel" gets greased. In reference
to the phrase, one man who stood up and expressed opposition to the
zoning publicly) later told me in private that he was for the new airport.
I have a business next to the airport and a farm and home next to the
landfill. I want the airport for what'it will do for the real estate
value of the land next to it and for the zoning which will not allow
obnoxious uses and low tax uses - of property like an expanded landfill
or an asphalt plant and the extra truck traffic that would bring
I find obtrusive. Thank you..
Sin
Thomas R. Kurak
