CASE #3

ACCEPT RESIGNATION OF CHARTER COMMISSIONER STEVE SIMENSON
By: J 0 Thieling, City Clerk

Background:

Staff has received a letter of resignation from Charter Commissioner Steye Simenson
(attached). Mr. Simenson has to travel frequently, which has prohibited him from
attending the last few meetings. Therefore, he feels it is necessary' to resign. Staff
emailed Mr. Simenson letting him know that a Charter Commissioner may continue to
serve until a replacement is appointed.

Some time ago, staff advertised for vacancies for several commissions. All of the City's
Commissions were listed on the application and people ranked which commission they
preferred to serve on. We don't have any on file that ranked the Charter Commission as
their number one choice; however, staff could contact those who ranked the Charter to
see if there is still an interest. Their application could then be submitted to the Chief
Judge. The other option would be to simply re-advertise the vacancy.

Commission Action:

Motion to accept the resignation of Charter Commissioner Steve Simenson and direct
staff to contact residents who ht1,veexpressed an interest in serving on the Charter
Commission

Or-
Motion to accept the resignation of Charter Commissioner Steve Simenson and direct
staff to advertise to fill the vacancy on the Charter Commission.

Reviewed by:

City Clerk

Charter:

05/10/09

P25
