Lower Rum River Water Management Organization's
3rd Generation Plan and Citizen Survey Results
By: Chris Anderson, Environmental Coordinator

Background:

CASE # 2

As some Board Members may recall, the Lower Rum River Water Management Organization
(LRRWMO) is drafting their 3rd Generation Plan. The LRRWMO has solicited public input
regarding possible issues within the watershed by way of an online survey. In fact, last fall, the
Environmental Policy Board participated in the survey by submitting a joint response. Overall,
public response to the survey was rather sparse. Therefore, the LRRWMO continues to seek out
public input to identify possible issues within the watershed and how that may translate into
potential goals in its' 3rd Generation Plan.

The LRRWMO has concluded that it would be beneficial and appropriate to invite the EPB, as
well as Andover's Open Space Committee and representatives from Anoka and Coon Rapids, to
review the results of the public survey of the watershed and suggest steps that the LRR WMO
might consider to increase public participation and awareness of watershed goals and issues.
Recommendations might focus both on the development of the watershed plan and on ongoing
participation in watershed issues.

Recommendation:

The Board should review the public survey results. Members with particular interest in
participating in watershed planning may wish to consider participating in a joint meeting this
summer with the LRRWMO and other advisory committees/representatives from member cities
either through the formation of a subcommittee or as a whole.

EPB Action

Based on discussion.

Attachments:
A.
