CASE # 1

JOINT CITY COUNCIL/COMMISSION DISCUSSION
By: Mark Riverblood, Parks Supervisor

Background:

The City Council and Park and Recreation Commission have held ajointmeeting in June for
over a decade. The joint meeting has been an opportunity for the Council and Commission to
share ideas and discuss topics of mutual concern. There also has been a tradition recently of
discussion on the Parks Capital Improvement Program which is attached for reference.

The intention with regard to the CIP is that Commission and staff would like a consensus
direction from Council members on the remaining park improvements projected for year 2009.

In addition to discussing the projects identified for 2009, Council members and the Commission
may wish to review the significant improvements proposed for Central Park in 2010, in light of
the recent parking problems. The essence of which would be adding parking, and the conversion
to a one-way parkway after the hockey rinks, and then the connection of this parkway to Y o lite
Street, and back to 161 ~t Avenue.

Commission Action:

No action required.

Reviewed by:
Director~Public Works/Principal City Engineer
Civil Engineer II
Police Chief

P &R: 06/11/09
