Case # 3

, NETWORKING EVENTS

By: Sean M. Sullivan, Economic Development Coordinator

Background:

City official and staffhave sporadically attended events for the Area Chambers, Rotary, Business
Appreciation and other organizations in the area. In the past this was funded mostly through the
City general fund. Golfis a major theme for the~e networking events and that presents a great
opportunity to. get t6 know some people "out of their element" and to build relationships.
Attached are two flyers for two events that are being held this summer. Staff is suggesting that
the EDA fund SOlIle "foursomes", consistmg of a combination of City staff, and officials, and
Ramsey businesses to attend events of this type. This would be considered part of our business
retention program that also included the business appreciation event, the business expo and
business connection meetings. On average these events cost between $400 to $500 dollars per
team registration. Staff is looking for authorization to spend up to $3000 (Approximately 6
foursomes) for these types of events as determined by the Economic Development Coordinator.

-
Funding Source: EDA Levy

Staff Recommendation: Authorize $3000 for registration to businesses networking events at the
discretion of the Economic Development Coordinator. .

EDA Action: Motion to authorize $3000 for registration to businesses networking events at the
discretion of the Economic Development Coordinator.

Attachment:
Anoka Area Chamber networking event
Rotary Event

EDA: 6.11.09

17
