Funding: <br />All associated project costs will be funded solely through the Water Utility Fund. A total of two bids <br />were submitted for consideration; from Caldwell Tanks and Chicago Bridge and Iron (CB & I). The <br />bids were opened on July 16, 2009 and the results are as follows: <br />Bidder Base bid Alternate (add) Total <br />Caldwell Tanks $3,307,900 $325,000 $3,632,900 <br />CB & I $3,188,400 $370,000 - $3,558,400 <br />The engineer's opinion of probable construction costs for the proposed water tower site was $4,250,906. <br />Staff Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council award a contract for City project #08 -21, water tower #3, to CB <br />& I in the amount of $3,188,400. Also, due of the magnitude of this project and the strict performance <br />requirements of the contract staff recommends that the Public Works Director have the ability to <br />approve change orders up to a maximum of $10,000. <br />Council Action: <br />Motion to approve Resolution 09- 06 -XXX awarding a contract for City project #08 -21, water tower #3, <br />to CB & I in the amount of $3,188,400, and to give the Public Works Director the authority to approve <br />change orders up to a maximum of $10,000. <br />Attachments: <br />City Council Case and Minutes from May 12, 2009 <br />Letter of Recommendation from Progressive Consulting Engineers, Inc. <br />Resolution <br />Reviewed By: <br />Public Works Direct r <br />CC: 6/23/09 <br />
