Councilmember Dehen stated that there are all kinds of firms that are quite a distance
from the City they serve. if you send out RFP's and you limit where they can be from,
the process is unfair.
Councilmember Elvig stated that we have determined that this is an issue.
Councilmember Look suggested have them come in and we will do the interviews.
Councilmember Dehen stated he will not participate in the decision - making but he can
offer input.
Mayor Ramsey felt that in today's world with email, etc. distance is not a big factor.
Mr. Ulrich stated there are potential logistics problems but give them a chance to answer
questions about that.
Councilmember McGlone asked about the interview process.
Mr. Ulrich stated it will be 15 to 20 minute interviews — five questions each.
Ms. Nelson stated that maybe the Council would be more comfortable with six. We
talked about logistics - now we should add back in some of the others that were split
votes — others that were eliminated.
Mayor Ramsey suggested having staff ask the questions and Council just listen.
3) Ludwig Leadership Award
City Administrator Ulrich stated the League of Minnesota cities has a Ludwig Leadership
Award for elected officials that have a career of long serving the cities, etc. We thought
it would be good to recommend Tom Gamec. We will bring that back to the Council for
support. It's a good chance to get a positive promotion for Ramsey.
".1n1143,1241 "L
Consensus was to adjourn the work session.
The City Council Work Session was adjourned at 9:35 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jo Ann M.
