Mayor Ramsey stated there is nothing wrong with the Planning Commission sending the
Council a plan and the Council could modify if they feel it is necessary.
Councilmember Wise stated he would like to meet with them.
Councilmember Jeffrey stated he agreed if we come to something we can agree on.
Without understanding what our direction might be they may come up with something
and we could shoot it down. We need to give them something to work on.
Councilmember McGlone stated he feels City Council has done a good job with making
decisions and he did not see any reason for meeting with the advisory board every time
we need information.
Councilmember Jeffrey stated he does not disagree but we have bounced this back and
forth forever. We have made some tough decisions but we have not made a decision on
this.
Councilmember Look stated that the attorney for East Bethel talked with Councilmember
Dehen on this when Fitzpatrick was our prosecutor. The way East Bethel does this is
officers can count the vehicles and make this many go away to take care of the problem.
When you start getting to the size of the parking pad, measuring land is difficult — and
difficult to prosecute. It needs to be simple to prosecute. This was the direction Council
was going with. He stated he is not saying we should not meet with the Planning
Commission but we need to be constructive and come up with something.
Councilmember Wise felt there needed to be some differences.
Councilmember Elvig stated that we have to get to a prosecutable, defendable ordinance.
Let's measure it against these goals. Come up with some goals, get ideas from the
Planning Commission — and clearly identify what we are trying to get done with this.
Mr. Gladhill stated we could not get our arms around what that number should be. What
do we start with — we want to know if together we can get to that point.
Councilmember Look stated that these people knew what our direction was — they are
idea folks — they shoot out ideas to come to solutions but there is no solution on this
because we actively disagree on this. He stated he is not against meeting with the
Planning Commission — it is his opinion we can give them our ideas and they will push
for theirs. Last time they disagreed, we decided to just lay low on it for a while.
Councilmember McGlone stated that we have to have a starting point — is there a base
number of vehicles — and are we just looking at automobiles or are we looking at trailers,
snowmobiles, etc. Where do we start that direction?
City Council Work Session — June 30, 2009
Page 12 of 17
