<br />Josh Hasbrook stated that he and his friends would definitely be willing to participate in the <br />program and be responsible for the upkeep of the dirt jumps. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen questioned if a bobcat would be sufficient to create the dirt jumps. <br /> <br />Josh Hasbrook stated that a bobcat would be sufficient and that he and his friends would be <br />willing to shape the jumps themselves. He explained that they could not pile the dirt fast enough <br />themselves and that is why they would need the assistance Qfthe bobcat. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dehen suggested that Josh Hasbrook develop a preliminary drawing of the dirt <br />jumps to assist City staff. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood commented that would be part of the process through the adopt-a- <br />spot program. <br /> <br />Mayor Ramsey questioned what would happen if someone were to be injured at the skate park. <br /> <br />Josh Hasbrook replied that many ofthe users carry cell phones and would be able to call for help <br />immediately. . <br /> <br />Commissioner Backous questioned if a group of students and/or young people would be willing <br />to assemble a youth advisory committee to help City staff with suggestions. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jeffery thought a youth advisory committee would be a good idea and also <br />suggested posting a sign with a number to reach City staff and anonymously report vandalism of <br />the skate park. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor R~verblood commented that more than one community had shut down their <br />skate park facilities due to vandalism. <br /> <br />Another youth commented that since school had finished for the year he had noticed underage <br />smoking at the skate park and had helped to clean up some of the cigarette butts himself. <br /> <br />Commissioner Barr thought that other cities had. provided an art wall to prevent graffiti and <br />questioned if that would be an option for the skate park. <br /> <br />Parks Supervisor Riverblood commented that graffiti is almost a park of the skate park <br />experience and the only thing the City could do is cover the offensive when it appears. <br /> <br />Commissioner Backous questioned if it would be hard to influence the use of safety equipment at <br />the skate park. <br /> <br />Josh Hasbrook commented that most of the users do not use helmets because of the heat but <br />thought maybe an age limit could be set to prevent younger children from using the equipment <br />without safety equipment. <br /> <br />Park and RecreationCommission/June 11,2009 <br />Page 2 of 10 <br />
